Protection and preservation of forests is carried out according to their biological and other peculiarities. It includes a set of institutional and other measures about reasonable usage of national forest resources, conservation of forests from destruction, damage, pollution and other negative impacts.
The main tasks of forest protection from fire are its control, detection, spread limitation and firefighting.The main fire-fighting equipment includes 67 fire engines and remodeling for fire-fighting vehicles, 45 thousand meters of fire hoses, 150 plows, 170 pumps, including 110 "Honda" vehicles, 35 metal containers.
Detection of forest and peat bog fires is carried out by 2 aircraft (aircraft IL-103 or AN-2 and helicopter MI-2) and with the help of 50 fire observation towers.
Forest protection from fire, illegal felling of timber and other forest offences is carried out by 2200 people - state forest guard. Information about fire, windbreaks and other forest offences is transferred through wire or cell communication and with the help of radio stations, such as “Motorola” (470 units).
Forest protection from pests and diseases is carried out on the ground of the forest research results. A detailed supervision is carried out by highly qualified specialists; reconnaissance supervision is conducted on 975 plots the total area of which is 16 thousand hectares.
73 thousand hectares forests perform recreational functions. That’s why annually the staff of the forestry enterprises equip and refresh about 1,5 thousand recreational areas, mount 2,3 thousands banners on environmental themes, clean forests from rubbish.
